Chapter 12

The Fatal Night and Day

June 25th 2009, what a night it was, what a day it transpired to be, what an unbelievable catastrophe. A monumental disaster, from my perspective. That night I climbed into bed with Nicole around 8:30PM. Baby Che was in his crib, great! But being only three months old, he was still getting up every two to three hours for the breast. Lying in bed at that time for me was a long time ago. Ever since I came to Los Angeles a few months ago to take care of Michael, things changed. I came here thinking I'll be with Michael and the three children during the day, but at nights I'll go home to rest and be with family. Instead the opposite happened. Michael did not only want me to be with him during the day, but he also wanted me to be with him every night.

I had never gone to Los Angeles to become a doctor to help Michael Jackson sleep every night, although it happened I had never signed nor did I agree to such an arrangement. To investigate what was wrong with Michael's lack of performance at rehearsals, I had decided one day that I would not rest when I went home. I had stayed up to go to rehearsals at the Los Angeles Forum and see what was happening with Michael for myself, because no one was giving me useful information. All I had heard for weeks were AEG’s complaints of him not attending rehearsals and not performing. One day I remember I had gotten home around 1:30PM, and I stayed up talking with Nicole. I watched a little television, conducted some business by phone, and may have assisted her with some minor chores around the house. Then I left about 4:30PM for the Los Angeles Forum to see Michael's rehearsal firsthand. I came back home from the rehearsal around 10:00PM that night; I needed some rest by then. But at 11:30PM that night, less than two hours after I left the Forum, brother Michael Amir, Michael Jackson’s personal assistant called to let me know that Mr. Jackson would be home soon and wanted to know if I'll be there by the time he arrived. I became very irate, and firmly said I was not coming tonight,

"I'm not a machine neither."

Just as Michael complained to me that he was being over worked by AEG, like a machine, I was feeling the same. I reiterated I did not come to Los Angeles for this. I've been duped into a position of which I'm purely vulnerable at this time, and I don't like it. I did not give up my practices for this. I did not go to his home that night. I blatantly refused. I stayed at my apartment in Santa Monica and rested, I heard nothing of it afterwards from Michael. This was my first chance for sleep in the past 24 hours and I was going to get my rest in order to function.
